What began as a peaceful protest in Anacortes Saturday turned into something else after a confrontation occurred between protesters and the driver of a vehicle trying to drive through as a group of people blocked an intersection on Commercial Avenue.
The result was possible injury to two protesters and possible criminal charges that could come later, although it was unclear who might face charges.
The protest took place on Commercial Avenue at midday Saturday, May 30, 2020, to stand against police brutality and to stand with people of color following the death of George Floyd of Minnesota, whose death during an arrest last week has sparked demonstations across the nation.
More than 80 people participated in the protest, including families with children.
